SUCCESS STORIES / FOOTBALL IS FUN
“Its incredibly rewarding for the Foundation, and myself, to see how much the funding has helped this programme.”
Liz Rushton - The Grace Foundation
Rovers Football in the Community Programme is one arm of Doncaster Rovers Football Club, and is part of the National Network of Football in the Community. In 2006 the Grace Foundation UK was delighted to join forces with the club to fund and deliver an activity programme for young people in the Doncaster area.
The soccer activity programme was for young people between the ages of 5 to 14 years and ran through the summer and half term holidays of 2006. Involvement with the project this year meant that many more children from schools in Doncaster, and the surrounding district, were able to take part in the activities, and at a much reduced cost. Indeed up to 200 children per day were in attendance during the October half term week.
The programme not only teaches football skills but also basic fitness, encourages healthy living and promotes social interaction between the children with an emphasis on fair play and respect for others. These are attributes that the Grace Foundation feel will benefit the children for their future path in life.
Liz Rushton, from the Grace Foundation UK attended one of the soccer schools in Misterton last summer to see first hand just how much benefit, and fun, the kids derived during the daily events.
“It was great to be able to take some time out to watch the children in action, “its incredibly rewarding for the Foundation, and myself, to see how much the funding has helped this programme.”
